The story goes like this. An Alien world is threatend by destruction when they attempt to build a weapon of mass destruction of their own. When an accident occurs it threatens the lives of thousands of people. Daniel risks his life to save these people but in doing so he exposes himself to massive radiation. Back in the SGC Daniel is left layingdying and there is nothing that can be done. However, he is saved by Oma Desala who we have seen before in Season Three's Maternal Instinct. Oma arrives and helps Daniel to ascend to a higher plane of existence as we have seen done by Shifu in Absolute Power and by orlin in Season Five's Acension.

Because Daniel does not dye it leaves a door open for him to return for Guest appearances in Season six and possibly the Stargate 2 feature film, if greenlighted, when it begins production after season six. he could do as orlin did and abandon is asencsion and return to the normal world. Michael Shanks has expressed interest to return in Season Six for guest appearances and will sign on for a possible feature film.

Meridian is a lete entry into Season five. It has replaced an episode called, Fragile balance which will be re-schduled for season six. Fragile balance was originally scheduled for season Four but was pushed back to five and now as it seems six. it is unkown at this stage how his decision wil affect the script for the season finale, Revelations, which will feature the first on screen appearance of the new Goa'uld Character being introduced to the series.
