Summary
Dr. Fraiser found she could not study Teal'c's symbiote without
killing him, so
Teal'c proposed they return to Chulak and steal a larva. When it was
deemed too dangerous,
Teal'c revealed to Jack that he had a wife and son on Chulak. The boy
was of age and would
soon undergo the prim'ta and become a Jaffa. Teal'c intended to prevent
it.
General Hammond stopped Teal'c from going through the stargate alone
and authorized a
mission to Chulak. Disguised as a Jaffa and scholars, SG-1 gated there
but a priest became
suspicious. Teal'c found his former home burned out and branded with
the sign of the traitor.
There they met Bra'tac, Teal'c's former Jaffa master, who helped them
find a camp where the
outcasts lived. Teal'c arrived in time to stop the prim'ta.
Teal'c's wife Drey'auc said that without a Goa'uld the boy would die
of a sickness he contracted
when they were driven from their home. Jack thought the boy could be
cured if they could get
him back to earth.
Samantha and Daniel followed a procession of people to a temple where
there was a tank full of
larval Goa'uld. They stole one, then Daniel blasted the tank with gunfire
in a vengeful act. They
were attacked by Jaffa as they ran through the woods but escaped to meet
up with Jack and the
rest.
Rya'c was too sick to make it to the stargate, so Teal'c gave him his
own symbiote. Bra'tac
implanted the stolen Goa'uld into the dying Teal'c. Before they reached
the gate, Rya'c awoke
and in a moving scene Teal'c left him and Drey'auc on Chulak. Near the
stargate the priest
refused to let them pass and Bra'tac used his staff weapon to defeat
all the priests
singlehandedly.

Goofs
- The serpent symbol on the sepulchre of the temple was upside down
and backward from
the forehead symbols of Teal'c, Bra'tac and the others.

Character Development
We were given more insight into Teal'c and
his guilt at
what happened to his wife and son because of the choices he made. We
learned something
about the society of Chulak, their customs and religious beliefs, the
background Teal'c came
from and his family. Although he swore he would not let his son become
a slave, in the end he was forced to give the boy a symbiote to save
his life.
We were introduced to Bra'tac, a curmudgeonly but likeable character,
obviously a good friend
to Teal'c. We saw how strong the Goa'uld brainwashing was in his comment,
"You dare steal
from the sepulchre of the temple?" Even though Bra'tac knew they were
not gods.

Music
The music when Teal'c found his home burned out and his family
gone was quite
emotional and moving.

Enigmas
- How did Rya'c get Scarlet Fever, an earth disease?
- The people carrying the litter with the holy water trekked through
the woods, all the way
to the sepulchre of the temple just so a priestess could pour one bowl
of water into the Goa'uld
tank?

Personal Reaction
Christopher Judge did an excellent job portraying
Teal'c's pain
("what have I done"). It was evident in his interaction with Rya'c how
he missed his son.
Nevertheless, he is on a holy mission to free his people from the Goa'uld.
I liked Bra'tac, especially the scene where he first met and challenged
SG-1 (who you callin' a
"hassock") and the skirmish with Jack. I also liked how he took out
all the priests at the stargate
after the remark about him being "once the greatest Jaffa master of all."
Bra'tac is an
indomitable spirit. I liked his interaction with Jack.
